Peter Crouch gave his verdict on reported Tottenham Hotspur target and Southampton striker Danny Ings on BT Sport 1 (11:53am, January 23, 2021).
The former Tottenham and Liverpool striker believes that Ings would be a superb addition to any top team.
Crouch added that he does not think that Southampton will want to sell the former Liverpool striker.
According to Eurosport, Tottenham are interested in signing Ings from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2021.
It has been reported that the England international has not signed a new deal with the Saints, and that Spurs are monitoring the situation of the 28-year-old.
Crouch said about Ings on BT Sport 1 (11:53am, January 23, 2021): “Could he play in a Champions League side? Without doubt. But Southampton will want to keep him because he really is their talisman. I think they really miss him when he doesn’t play.
“He had the opportunity at Liverpool. The only reason it didn’t work out for him was injury. So of course, he’ll perhaps want to play at the top, top level because there’s no doubt he can do. But listen, the grass isn’t always greener.
“I think he’d be a superb acquisition for anyone. He could be fantastic as a squad player. I think he could lead the line for quite a few of those top teams.”
Do Tottenham Hotspur need Danny Ings?
Harry Kane is the first-choice striker at Tottenham, and that is not going to change anytime soon.
Son Heung-min has emerged as an important source of goals for Jose Mourinho’s team, while Carlos Vinicius is on loan from Benfica.
If Spurs decide to simply let Vinicius leave at the end of his loan spell, then a space will open up in the squad for Ings.
The 28-year-old would be a very good signing for Spurs and would be an important source of goals.
Ings has been brilliant for Southampton, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in the Premier League so far this season and scoring 22 goals and giving two assists in the league in 2019-20, according to WhoScored.
