Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic have been linked with Manchester City youngster Phil Foden in the January transfer window.

Peter Crouch of Stoke City FC celebrates scoring a goal during the Premier League match between Southampton and Stoke City at St Mary's Stadium on May 21, 2017 in Southampton, England.

Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has suggested in The Daily Mail that Manchester City should not send Phil Foden out on loan.

According to The Mirror, Scottish Premiership club Celtic are interested in signing Foden on loan from Premier League side City in the January transfer window.

The report has also claimed that clubs in the Premier League and in the Championship also want the youngster on loan next month.

Phil Foden #80 of Manchester City attempts to move around Marouane Fellaini #27 of Manchester United at NRG Stadium on July 20, 2017 in Houston, Texas.

The 17-year-old midfielder has recently broke into the Citizens’ first team and is hugely talented.

The promising teenager won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup with England in 2017 and has a bright future.

Stoke striker Crouch has suggested that City should not loan out the youngster in the January transfer window, and has also advised the midfielder to remain at the Etihad Stadium.

Crouch wrote in The Daily Mail: “There has been a bit of talk about him going out on loan to further his career but I don’t see any reason why Foden needs to hurry down that road.

“At this moment in time, where is he going to learn more – at City with Pep Guardiola nurturing him or out in the frenzy of the Championship? “

“Foden has brilliant potential and it should not be rushed,” added the Stoke striker. “He is in the perfect place right now to develop.”

Meanwhile, Hibernian defender Efe Ambrose has revealed what Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers told the players when he took over in the summer of 2016.

Rodgers succeeded Ronny Deila as the Celtic manager, and under the former Liverpool and Swansea City boss, the Hoops have progressed massively.

Ambrose, who can operate as a centre-back or as a right-back, worked with Rodgers in the first half of the 2016-17 season before being sent out on loan to Hibernian in February 2017 – he signed a permanent contract with Hibs in the summer of 2017.

Ambrose told The Edinburgh Evening News: “When Brendan Rodgers came in he sat down with the players and he discussed his objectives and the most important thing he said was that he wanted them to be unbeaten at home.

“He knew they could lose elsewhere, but he wanted them to make sure that they are never beaten at home and make sure they qualify for Europe.”
