Stoke City striker Peter Crouch backs Everton’s decision to sign Theo Walcott from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has suggested in The Daily Mail that it was smart of Everton to sign Theo Walcott from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

As reported by The Sun, Everton have had to pay Premier League rivals Arsenal a transfer fee of £20 million in order to secure the services of the 28-year-old, who can operate as forward or as a striker.

The England international started his professional club football career at Southampton before his move to Arsenal in 2006.

Stoke striker Crouch, who spent the 2004-05 season at Southampton, believes that Everton have made a smart decision in signing Walcott.

Crouch wrote about Walcott in The Daily Mail: “He’s intelligent, he makes good runs and his pace is electric.

“Everton have done smart business to sign him. People will always ask whether he has fulfilled his potential but, trust me, he’s been a very good player.”

Walcott has not progressed as well as he was expected to during his time at Arsenal, and there have also been injury concerns.

Everton, though, are getting a player who is determined to make up for lost time and is also hungry for playing time.

Crouch has been on the books of Stoke since the summer of 2011 when he joined from Tottenham Hotspur for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £12 million.
