Newcastle United’s youngsters may have blown their chances of securing loan deals, according to under-23 boss Peter Beardsley.

Newcastle’s under-23 team were thrashed by Aston Villa 4-0 on Monday, with Libor Kozak netting a hat-trick.

Beardsley told the club’s official website that the timing of the result and performance so close to transfer deadline could have impacted his young players’ prospects.

He said: “I’m disappointed overall. We’ve been looking to get players on loan, but there wasn’t many who covered themselves in glory today.”

He went onto add: “(the players) will have to look at them (video clips of the game) and be realistic and be honest with themselves, because what we saw doesn’t lie.”

One bright spot for Newcastle was Australian defender Curtis Good completing 90 minutes, after suffering with injury problems during his time at the club.

Among the more high profile names to feature in the defeat was Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic, both of who have played fleetingly for the first team.

Newcastle’s under-23s have won one game and lost two to open the season, and do not have another fixture for another fortnight due to the international break.
