Simon Jordan is wondering if the sudden departure of Jose Mourinho from Tottenham Hotspur may speak volumes about the club’s summer transfer plans, speaking to talkSPORT (19 April, 10.30am).
As if Monday morning couldn’t get any more dramatic…
Less than 24 hours after it emerged that Tottenham are one of the so-called ‘big six’ clubs driving the introduction of the ghoulish European ‘Super’ League, it has now emerged that Spurs will be contesting next weekend’s Carabao Cup final without a manager in the dugout.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho has been handed his P45 in the wake of Friday’s 2-2 draw at Everton (a performance which was much worse than the result suggests), with former midfielder Ryan Mason to take over on an interim basis until the end of the season.
And Jordan, the former Crystal Palace owner, has a theory as to why the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has gone now – with a cup final just days away and European qualification still on the line.
“Perhaps it tells you Tottenham are not in the business of spending a lot of money…” Jordan says, before questioning the timing of a decision which would make made sense on June 1 but certianly not now.

“There is no sense. Youre at the business end of the season. Theres nothing you’re going to change now.”
Mourinho, given the choice, tends to splash the cash like Augustus Gloop at Cadburys World when the transfer window opens.
With Tottenham still coming to terms with life in this COVID-afflicted world, maybe chairman Daniel Levy felt he could do without a manager demanding bags of cash in a time where money is in short supply.
