As Australia beat Ecuador 3-1 in a friendly encounter on Friday, the national media were all praises for Newcastle United forward Garang Kuol.

The 18-year-old has had a tough time of things at Hearts, starting just one game at the Scottish Premiership side up until now.

But as Australia took home a resounding victory against Ecuador, Newcastle United starlet Garang Kuol got on the scoresheet and earned rave reviews from the national media, and deservedly so.

Newcastle wonderkid Garang Kuol earns high rating after Australia beat Ecuador

After the Socceroos were 2-1 up, Kuol managed to give them a two-goal cushion in the 84th minute by tapping home a well-worked strike.

In the process, the youngster also managed to register his first-ever goal for his national team, which will rank high in his career accomplishments so far.

Fox Sports in Australia was the national media outlet that gave Newcastle talent Garang Kuol an 8/10 rating against Ecuador, just lower than Leicester City’s Harry Souttar and St.Pauli’s Jackson Irvine.

“At just 18 years old, he’s Australia’s fourth-youngest goalscorer…but he nearly managed to stuff it up from a metre out! First, there was a hint of offside and second, he almost contrived to deflect the ball away from goal.”

“Nonetheless, Kuol is off the mark and sparked fantastic celebration from teammates and the fans. Let’s hope it’s the first of many goals in the green and gold. Came on with fierce determination to change the game, and did his job to perfection. He might be struggling in club-land, but this was the perfect tonic”, they wrote.

Fair play to Newcastle prospect Garang Kuol for making history for Australia against Ecuador and earning an impressive rating from a national media outlet for his game-changing cameo off the bench.

After a disappointing stint out in Scotland, this was the best way to respond.
