AC Milan are now assessing a transfer for Steven Bergwijn as Antonio Conte still overlooks the Tottenham Hotspur winger, according to Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Carlo Pellegatti.
Bergwijn has appeared on the Rossoneri’s radar in recent hours while they scout potential options to improve Stefano Pioli’s attack. The San Siro hierarchy like the Netherlands star as the 24-year-old can play on either flank, but is often barely featuring in north London.
Conte has so far only fielded Bergwijn in seven of his 12 Premier League fixtures in charge of Spurs. He has also only started the forward in one match, coming against Chelsea after scoring twice at Leicester City. The winger made a game-changing impact from the bench.

Bergwijn turned the game around for Tottenham at the King Power Stadium with two goals in stoppage-time. But he failed to show the same impact at Stamford Bridge, and has only played 26-minutes across Spurs’ following two defeats against Southampton and Wolves.
AC Milan will now continue to monitor Bergwijn and could move this summer if Tottenham accept favourable transfer terms. The 16-cap international will have three-years remaining on the £73k-a-week contract he signed after joining in 2020 come the end of the season.
Conte blocked AC Milan target Bergwijn leaving Tottenham in January
Tottenham were open to Bergwijn leaving north London in the January transfer window for a loss. Fabrizio Romano noted Spurs would have taken €25m (£21m) for the attacker amid interest from Ajax. They paid PSV Eindhoven £27m for his arrival in the January 2020 sales.

However, after scoring twice at Leicester and starting at Chelsea, Romano noted that Conte had blocked Bergwijn from leaving Spurs. Former Ajax chief Marc Overmars also confirmed to Ajax TV that Tottenham had priced Bergwijn out of a return to the Eredivisie last month.
Boss Erik ten Hag was particularly keen for Bergwijn to move to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. He stated during a press conference earlier this month: “He’d have been perfect for us”. Now, AC Milan could swoop on Ajax’s failure and target a transfer with Tottenham for Bergwijn.
