Tottenham Hotspur fans have called for Mauricio Pochettino to be made England boss.

England stumbled to a 2-0 defeat in Belgium last night, as the pressure ramped up on Gareth Southgate even further, with Tottenham fans among those suggesting that Pochettino would be a better fit.

For all the good Southgate did at the 2018 World Cup, England seem to have lost their way more recently.

The Three Lions’ aren’t attacking with the quality that they once showed, and their results have taken a turn for the worse.

With Pochettino, rather surprisingly, still out of work – Spurs fans now feel that the time has come for the Argentine to be offered the chance to manage England.

There would, of course, be some doubts over whether Pochettino would take the job.

The former Tottenham man has hinted that he has holding on for a job in club football, and there is a widespread belief that he will eventually be given the Manchester United job.

However, Pochettino has always expressed a deep affinity with English football and the Three Lions job would at least give him a chance to work in the country.

The likes of Harry Kane would surely be delighted with the news if it was to happen.

Kane has arguably not been used correctly by Southgate in England games of late, with his goalscoring form slightly slowing.

At Tottenham Kane has plenty of pace behind him, which allows him to thrive in a deeper role.

However, at England, Southgate has failed to provide him with as much support.

Pochettino would surely change that if he was to be given the role, as he utilised Kane brilliantly during his spell at Tottenham.

Southgate’s job at the moment still seems to be relatively safe, though.

The England boss did take the Three Lions to a World Cup semi-final in his first major tournament, and it would be a surprise if the FA decided to part company with him just months before the European Championships start.
