Jurgen Klopp has described Liverpool hitman Diogo Jota as the ‘perfect signing’.

The Portugal international bagged himself a brace on Saturday as Liverpool hammered Southampton 4-0 at Anfield.

In doing so, Jota, who also scored a brilliant goal against Arsenal last weekend, took his tally for the season to eight in 16 appearances.

With Roberto Firmino out injured, the former Wolves attacker is really establishing himself as a reliable deputy.

Michael Edwards spent £45 million in bringing him in from Molineux in 2020.

And Klopp, speaking to a press conference on Saturday, couldn’t heap enough praise on the 24-year-old.

He said: “An exceptional player, exceptional boy.

“A perfect signing as he has everything a Liverpool player in this squad needs; he has the technical skills, he has the physical skills and he is very smart so can learn all the tactical stuff quickly.”

Frightening

The scary thing about Jota is that he’s going to get much better, isn’t he?

We’re talking about an attacker who only turns 25 next week.

To put that into context, Salah was that age when he returned to the Premier League to join Liverpool in 2017.

Nobody is saying that Jota will be a better player, when all is said and done.

But is there an argument to be made that he is more advanced as a footballer than his teammate was at the same age?

Perhaps, yes.
