‘Perfect move for him’: Martin Keown says £40m star should sign for West Ham

West Ham United would be the ‘perfect move’ for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer, former Premier League winner Martin Keown told talkSPORT (23 April, 12:00pm).

Thomas Tuchel hasn’t made many mistakes since replacing Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge hot seat but, during Tuesday’s goalless draw with Brighton, the Blues boss could be forgiven for wondering if he had got his team selection right.

Chelsea were crying out for a classic number nine against Graham Potter’s well-drilled backline.

But Tammy Abraham, arguably the most natural finisher in Chelsea’s squad, was conspicuous by his absence just when the side needed him most; left out for the second game in a row.

Clearly, Tuchel is not a fan of the rangy England international.

Abraham has started just two out of a possible 13 league games under the ex-PSG boss so far.

And Keown believes that a West Ham side scouring the market for a new centre-forward would be the ideal destination for a talented young poacher crying out for a fresh start.

“(West Ham) would be the perfect move for him,” said the Arsenal legend, who wonders if David Moyes’ high-flying side should have made their move for Abraham a few months back.

“Should West Ham have done that (sign Abraham) when Sebastien Haller was allowed to leave in January?” he said.

“West Ham are a little bit bare now at centre-forward. They haven’t got a centre-forward.”

Chelsea are expected to demand around £40 million for Abraham.

The one-time Aston Villa loanee, who was allegedly left feeling ‘worried, sad and angry’ following his Brighton omission, is also unlikely to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge with his role in Tuchel’s plans so uncertain (ESPN).
