Ally McCoist has said that if Tottenham Hotspur manage to get a transfer for James Maddison over the line, they would have found the ideal replacement for Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen.
90 Min had reported in February that Arsenal have been ‘kept informed’ about the Leicester City playmaker’s future, as his contract expires in 2024.
While plenty of names have been touted as potential successors to Tottenham Hotspur legend Christian Eriksen, Ally McCoist seemingly believes a transfer for James Maddison would finally address the void in the side since his exit.
McCoist says Maddison is the perfect Eriksen replacement for Tottenham
The England international has had a terrific season for Leicester, managing to register 9 goals and 6 assists for a team placed 17th in the Premier League.

The fact that the £60 million-rated [Telegraph] Maddison’s wondrous performances led opposition fans to campaign for him making a cut in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad goes to show how impactful he has been this campaign.
As Tottenham continue to rue the absence of Christian Eriksen, Ally McCoist believes the club should complete a transfer for James Maddison to replace the void left by his departure.
“I’ve said, I don’t know for how long. They haven’t replaced Eriksen as a playmaker in the middle of that park. Spurs haven’t. Maddison would be perfect for it”, he said on talkSPORT.
Spurs need Maddison and badly
While Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski can create a bundle of opportunities for their teammates, Spurs lack a genuine creator in their ranks.
In that sense, Ally McCoist is right when he encourages Tottenham to do everything in their power to ensure that a transfer for James Maddison is official, as he could replace Christian Eriksen.
Regardless of whichever manager the club next brings in, it would be nearly impossible for them to set up a side to score enough goals that lacks a chance creator.
