Tottenham Hotspur sent Vincent Janssen packing last week.
Vincent Janssen finally got the hint last week and packed his bags to Turkey where he signed a season on loan with Fenerbahce.
Spurs had replaced him with Fernando Llorente and omitted him from their Europa League squad.
It is a quick fall from grace for a striker who Mauricio Pochettino was thrilled to sign last summer.
Last year after signing the Dutchman from AZ Alkmaar, Pochettino raved about him and declared him as ‘perfect’ for their team.
The London Evening Standard reported at the time that Pochettino said: “Vincent is still very young and his potential is massive to develop.
“He has a profile that fits perfectly for us.
“He has quality in the box and he’s a striker that likes to fight and work for the team. That is perfect for us.”
Janssen did show a desire to fight for his Spurs future by resisting a deadline day move, but Pochettino and Tottenham had clearly decided not to return the favour.
Despite Pochettino’s comments about his ‘potential’, the manager has shown little patience with him, this season and even last year.
Janssen did only score two Premier League goals from open play last year, and his future at Spurs might not completely be done.
To save it, he needs to have a tremendous campaign in Turkey and return confident and ready to once again fight for his place.
