Speculation about Jude Bellingham joining Liverpool is slowing down considerably.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the England international throughout much of 2022 so far.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are definitely interested in the Borussia Dortmund midfielder but 2023 is a more realistic time to pull the trigger.

However, Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Bellingham to Anfield is a transfer Jurgen Klopp needs to happen this summer, arguing that the German manager is getting to a point where he cannot rely on Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson in midfield due to aging and injury.

He told talkSPORT: “Liverpool need midfielders. Thiago has injury problems. Henderson – his legs are going to start going now, he’s into his 30s. They need two midfielders. Even someone like Bellingham would fit in perfect at Liverpool.”

Still only 18, Bellingham is clearly a frightening talent and one who any club in world football would absolutely love to have in their first XI.

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard is already on record as saying that he loves the player.

And as questionable as Agbonlahor is a lot of the time, he is spot on about the Reds needing Bellingham.

Thiago almost missed the Champions League final due to an injury he sustained toward the end of the Premier League, and he pulled out of Spain’s summer fixtures this month.

As for Henderson, well he’s set to turn 32 in a little over a week and Klopp definitely needs to be thinking about a long-term successor.

Jude Bellingham joining Liverpool works on every level but, as Romano said, this summer it’s unlikely to materialise.
