Jamie Carragher has stated that Kylian Mbappé moving to Liverpool, instead of Real Madrid, after PSG’s Champions League exit would be ‘perfect’ for the player, as he told CBS Sports (09/03/22 at 10:20 pm).

The Liverpool legend was responding to claims from his fellow pundit, Micah Richards, who thinks moving to Anfield or Manchester City, would be the better option for the player.

On Wednesday night, Paris Saint-Germain were booted out of the Champions League after a 17-minute Karim Benzema hat-trick set the French side packing.

With PSG’s 23-year-old superstar out-of-contract in the summer, it raised the obvious question about his future and where he should go next.

When it was put forward by Richards that, either Liverpool or Manchester City should be his destination, Carragher agreed and issued this response.

“I agree with, Micah,” said Carragher. “I have always felt that Mbappé is that good that he can map out his own career in some ways.

“Real Madrid and Barcelona would still want him at 25 or 26. I just think, not just because Liverpool and Man City are classed as two of the best teams in Europe, just sampling the Premier League for three or four years.

“You have done the French league, then you go to the Premier League, which is the best league.

“Then you think in a few years, Barcelona and Real Madrid will be back because this Real Madrid team won’t win the Champions League this season. No chance!

“But, in terms of mapping his career out for himself, I think that would be perfect to go to the Premier League for two or three years. And then four or five years at Real Madrid.”

Mbappé did grow up supporting and admiring Real Madrid, so if he does head to Spain, then the Santiago Bernabéu will be his destination.

The lure of the Premier League, its stature, the money on offer, quality of teams and football could also be tempting for the World Cup winner.

Added to the fact that Liverpool are a historical club in the game and they are currently riding a wave.

But, whilst it’s unlikely Real Madrid will win the Champions League this season, you add Mbappé to your ranks, then they have every chance of winning it the following campaign.
