Ian Wright says Harry Kane’s header during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw against Brentford on Boxing Day was ‘perfect’, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (26/12/22 at 11:10 pm).
Antonio Conte’s side decided to pay homage to their performances from the start of the season by going 2-0 down, before mounting a comeback and securing a point in their race to finish in the Champions League places.
Putting his horror penalty miss at the 2022 FIFA World Cup behind him, Kane was the one who lead the charge with a brilliantly-placed header after the break.
Following a wicked cross from Tottenham’s left-flank by centre-back Clement Lenglet, it was Kane who rose above Brentford’s towering backline with perfection and he placed the ball into the top corner with a Duncan Ferguson-Esque header, just without the brute force, power and aggression.
Ian Wright preferred his dinks and lobs during his goalscoring days, but he very much appreciated the old-school nature of Kane’s goal yesterday.
“It’s what we are taught,” said Wright. “He’s got to hit that back from where it has come from. He’s in the air and everything is on the ball.
“Kane’s eye is on the ball, it’s come off the forehead, it’s just like the perfect header. The perfect header for what he has done there. Brilliantly executed, especially given that they were 2-0 down and it had to happen. It’s a brilliant goal.”
TOTTENHAM WITHOUT KANE
A different story would be cooking in north London if Kane wasn’t lining up week in and week out for the club because the £200k-a-week man (Spotrac) is just irreplaceable.
That header on Boxing Day was his 13th of the Premier League season, and if it wasn’t for a certain goal-crazy Erling Haaland of Manchester City, then Kane’s current run would be appreciated a lot more.
Either way, whilst the England striker slept for the first half of last season, and by his high standards, only scored 17 Premier League goals.
Well, with the way he is going, he will well and truly smash that this season because he is on his way to scoring 30+ in the Premier League alone.
