Gary Neville told Super Sunday on Sky Sports (15/08/21 at 7:20 pm) that Leeds United were the ‘perfect’ opponents for Manchester United during their 5-1 thrashing at Old Trafford.

The former right-back claimed that Luke Ayling’s goal for Leeds was ‘unbelievable’ but he feels that they were just ‘pulled apart’ over the weekend.

That’s 11 goals conceded by Leeds against their bitter rivals in Manchester, as they showcased that they can do the business with and without fans.

Neville shared his damning verdict on Leeds on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season and how they are seemingly repeating the same mistakes.

“I thought it was a great day (for Man United),” said Neville. “Fans are back in the stadiums at every ground, so it was Old Trafford full again.

“Leeds are the perfect opponents. This I think (Ayling’s goal) was an unbelievable goal then you are thinking ‘it’s what Leeds can do’.

“But I just think when Manchester United played Leeds last year and it was almost a replica of that.

“They played one-on-one and Manchester United pulled them apart. Bruno and Pogba absolutely outstanding.”

Perhaps one issue Leeds have in their game is the ability to implode and concede three or four+ on a number of occasions throughout the season.

Even though it was only the opening day, such a defeat wouldn’t have gone down well with the supporters.

But one thing Marcelo Bielsa is brilliant at is preparing his players to respond to such setbacks.

And Rafa Benitez’s Everton are going to feel their wrath when Leeds fans pack out Elland Road this weekend.
