Richard Keys has claimed that Carlo Ancelotti is at the wrong club in Everton and would have been perfect for Arsenal on his own personal blog.
Ancelotti’s Everton side currently sit above Arsenal in the Premier League, but that does not mean all has been brilliant at Goodison Park this season.
Everton fell to a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United at home last night, leaving Ancelotti open to criticism.
And Keys suggests that Arsenal and Everton would be best off swapping managers.
“Anyone other than Carlo Ancelotti would’ve been out on their ear this morning,” he said.
“Let’s quickly follow that up. The guy is a legend. He’s the ‘daddy’ of the super-coaches. He’s done it all. But he’s at the wrong club. He’s always been at the wrong club. He was the perfect fit for Arsenal – a steady presence, able to handle big names and he would’ve eased the club back in the right direction.
“I’ve said this all before – Arteta was the right man for Everton – someone who’d had a touch of the ball at Goodison, who understood the club and could learn on the job as he re-built from the bottom up. Everybody would’ve been growing at the same pace.”
Keys’ latest claim feels very reactionary, after Everton’s latest defeat.
Ancelotti may well have been a good appointment for Arsenal, but the experienced Italian has also shown plenty of promise at Goodison Park.
Everton started the season very strongly and it is only really recently where they have fallen out of Champions League contention, largely down to their home form.
For Everton, Ancelotti is still surely the best possible option – given his illustrious history.
And he looks a far more certain bet of success than Arteta, who has badly struggled at Arsenal this term.
