According to Alfredo Pedulla, Aston Villa are interested in bringing Henrikh Mkhitaryan back to the Premier League.

The Armenian has previously played for Arsenal and Manchester United in England’s top-flight, but he truly made his name at Borussia Dortmund where he’s worked under Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp is a big fan of Mkhitaryan, and while the Liverpool boss has had good things to say about the midfielder, he could now end up working under another Liverpool legend in the shape of Steven Gerrard at Villa Park.

What’s been said?

Klopp spoke highly of Mkhitaryan ahead of a game against Manchester United in 2017.

“He was always a fantastic player,” he said.

“Perfect attitude, mentality. He wanted to do everything right in every moment of his life. Sometimes in football you need to be a little bit different.”

“We all know that the best players in the world have a few issues. That’s okay. I’m older than a lot of players. I have made mistakes that they don’t have to make. I can tell them.”

Seal of approval

If Mkhitaryan is a fantastic player in Klopp’s eyes, then that should be good enough for Gerrard.

The Aston Villa boss is clearly a huge admirer of the German, so this seal of approval will certainly mean something to Gerrard in pursuing this move.

Of course, whether or not Gerrard can get a tune out of Mkhitaryan is another story entirely. The Armenian wasn’t great for either United or Arsenal, but perhaps it will be third time lucky for the former Dortmund man in the Premier League.

Klopp is a fan, but based on past Premier League performances, this could be a dodgy signing for Villa.
