Andros Townsend told talkSPORT (14/07/21 at 7:05 am) that Danny Ings would be ‘perfect’ for Tottenham.
The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Tottenham are targetting the Southampton striker to play alongside Harry Kane next season.
Given that Ings has rejected a new contract at St Mary’s – and he has one year left on his current deal – then this is the chance for a club to pounce for his talents.
And when Townsend was told about Spurs planning to play Ings alongside Kane, this is how he reacted.
“I can speak about Danny Ings, I think he is a perfect striker for a manager,” said Townsend. “I think he’s perfect for a midfielder.
“Not only does he score goals. But he is always making runs off the ball. Defensively, he is the first line of defence. He presses the ball very well.
“In the modern game, you need a striker that not only scores goals but he does that dirty and hard graft as well.
“Whether he is playing at Spurs or Southampton next season then he is the perfect striker as well.”

This is a big statement of intent by those in the Tottenham boardroom, and given the manager they have at the helm, it could work.
Nuno Espirito Santo likes to play three at the back and that would allow him to play two out-and-out strikers.
When Wolves were in the Championship, Nuno would deploy two men up top, but he changed that when they got promoted to the Premier League by putting an extra man in midfield instead.
But this rumour about Spurs wanting Ings to play alongside Kane will be music to the ears of supporters.
