According to the Evening Standard, Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined Everton and Fulham in the race to sign Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The Frenchman went down with Watford on the final day of last season and he, like many of his teammates, is expected to leave the Hornets for a top-flight side in the coming weeks.

Everton have been heavily linked with Doucoure and the report claims that they are still the favourites. However, Fulham and Wolves are set to provide some late competition which could ruin Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

Doucoure, on his day, is almost unstoppable. The Frenchman is incredibly strong with the ball at his feet and is a very good dribbler. He has the quality to drive with possession from one end of the field to another; something that both the Toffees and Wolves can do with.

The report claims that Watford are looking for a fee of £25 million up front to sanction a sale. Some strong negotiation could bring that asking price down but irrespective of the money, he would be a very good signing.

At 27, Doucoure is at the perfect age to make a big move. As interested as Everton are, Wolves could make things extremely difficult for the Toffees considering that Nuno Santo’s men will play in Europe next season while Ancelotti’s side will not.

Wolves supporters feel Doucoure is exactly the type of midfielder they need. A ball carrier from deep to the opposition half will add a new dimension to the Wanderers’ style, which could make them even more dangerous next season.
