Newcastle beat Sunderland in the FA Youth Cup last night.
Newcastle United have had a poor record against rivals Sunderland in recent seasons, but last night the under-18s chalked up an impressive victory for the Toon.
The two North East sides clashed in the FA Youth Cup knockout rounds, and Newcastle edged out an entertaining encounter to win 4-3.

Newcastle had led the game 3-1 before Sunderland fought back to get the scoreline to 3-3, before the night’s hero Lewis McNall scored an 87th minute winner.
The victory was watched by first team players, along with the under-23s, some of who have recently made the step up. Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Perez were among those to hail the youngster’s victory.
Newcastle’s win in the mini Tyne Wear derby saw them progress to the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup, a competition won in four of the last five seasons by Chelsea.
The Toon’s only victory in the FA Youth Cup came back in 1961/62 when they recorded a 2-1 final win over Wolves.
Last night puts them one step closer to putting their name in the history books, but whether there is a potential trophy at stake or not, it was a delight for the players to get one over on their rivals.
