The Spanish goalkeeper has been linked with a Rafa Benitez reunion at Newcastle United.
Pepe Reina
Newcastle United are said to be interested in the signing of Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina. The Spaniard has been signed by Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez twice previously, at both Liverpool and Napoli. With the Spaniard unsold on Newcastle’s current goalkeeping options he is believed to be considering a deal to bring his old custodian back to English football.
But other teams appear keen on the player. For example, AC Milan have recently been linked with the player – who is struggling to negotiate a new deal at the Stadio San Paolo.

The Rossoneri though are not an option, according to the player’s agent. Speaking to Calciomercato, as reported by Football Italia, this week Reina’s representative Manuel Garcia Quillon stated:
“In Italy there’s only Napoli.
Liverpool’s Jose Reina during the game
“The Premier League? We’re talking about an important player who a lot of teams would like, but his priority is to stay with Napoli.
“Is a renewal impossible? I don’t know, we discussed it but for now we haven’t moved forward.”
Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow
Newcastle currently have Karl Darlow, Matz Sels, Rob Elliot and Tim Krul on the books at St James’ Park, but none of them have seemingly done enough to convince Benitez they are good enough to be the club’s number one now they are back in the Premier League.
Reina, considered by many Liverpool fans as one of their greatest ever stoppers, is certainly qualified and it appears that the Premier League is definitely an option for the 34-year-old star.
