The former Liverpool shot-stopper has tipped the current Anfield number one to improve further.

Alisson Becker of Liverpool looks on during the FA Community Shield match between Liverpool and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on August 4, 2019 in London, England.

Former Liverpool favourite Pepe Reina has tipped Alisson Becker to get ‘better and better’, The Mirror report.

Reina was something of a goalkeeping icon at Anfield during his nine years at the club, winning the Premier League Golden Glove award in three successive seasons and picking up the club’s Player Of The Year award in 2010.

He knows a thing or two about becoming a success on Merseyside and has been watching Alisson’s progress with intrigue over the last year.

With a year’s experience in the English top-flight under his belt, the Liverpool number one has been tipped to improve even more.

As quoted by The Mirror, Reina said: “Alisson is one of the best in the world as he has demonstrated since the beginning which is not easy in the Premier League.

“The performances he has put in have been excellent and the way Liverpool play suits Alisson.

“He will only become better and better because he has the right quality, the right attitude, and the experience of one year already in the bank.”

Alisson was indeed in imperious form last term, starting all 38 of the Reds’ top-flight matches and helping his side keep an incredible 21 clean sheets. That was enough to ensure he won the league’s Golden Glove award, just like Reina. No team in the division conceded less goals.

That success transferred to Europe too of course, playing in every match on the way to UEFA Champions League glory.

Helping keep clean sheets against illustrious sides such as Bayern Munich, Porto, Barcelona and in the final against Spurs, he earned his spot in UEFA’s squad of the season.

Improving from that standard seems like a tall order, but Reina clearly thinks the 26-year-old has not quite yet hit his potential ceiling.

Liverpool fans will be hoping that the Reds can use the defensive foundation he provides to go on and win the English Premier League, with their campaign starting tomorrow night against Norwich City.
