Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Reds Assistant Manager Pep Lijnders has been speaking about some of the standout performers in Liverpool training.
The Merseyside club are still in Austria as they prepare for the new season, and this has been a chance for a number of players to prove their worth ahead of the upcoming season.
Unsurprisingly, Lijnders said that the usual suspects such as Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have been brilliant, while there was also some special praise for Harvey Elliott.
However, perhaps most interestingly, the coach said that Takumi Minamino has been on fire in training.
What’s been said?
Lijnders stated that Minamino had been on fire in a recent session.
“Harvey played some outstanding last passes, Mo and Sadio were deadly in the finish, Taki was on fire as well and Joel had his Brazilian boots on again. Coaching is about simplifying things, making it easier for the players, so we spoke about the timing of the pass, to adapt your movement to the player who has the ball. Football smartness. Common sense practice, not complicating things,” Lijnders said.

Part to play
If Minamino is impressing in training, one has to wonder whether or not he’ll have a part to play this season.
He spent the second half of last term out on loan at Southampton, but with the Reds lacking attacking options, he may get the chance to prove himself at Anfield.
Lijnders clearly likes what he’s seen from the Japan international in pre-season, and if Jurgen Klopp sees things in the same way, he may get a shot next term.
