Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Leeds United youngster Ian Carlo Poveda, as quoted in The Times.

Guardiola was impressed with the performance of Poveda during Leeds’s 1-1 draw with City at Elland Road in the Premier League at the weekend.

The 20-year-old – who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder – did not start the match on Saturday, but the youngster came on as a substitute at the start of the second half, and his pace gave the visiting team problems at the back.

As reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post, Poveda moved to Leeds from City in January 2020.

The Times quotes Guardiola as saying about Poveda: “He came here for one type of level. And the second half showed his development under Marcelo is getting better.”

Meanwhile, former Leeds players Nigel Martyn and Andy Couzens have praised the Whites for their performance against City on Saturday evening.

Stats

Against City on Saturday evening, Poveda played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 72.7%, took 23 touches, attempted two dribbles, and made two tackles, according to WhoScored.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Saturday evening, hosts Leeds had 52% of the possession, took 12 shots of which seven were on target, and earned seven corners, according to BBC Sport.

Leeds are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with seven points from four matches.
