Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers are ahead of Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa in the race for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee, according to The Daily Mail.
The Daily Mail have reported that Rangers are the frontrunners for McAtee, along with Swansea City and Girona.
Rangers, Swansea and Girona all want to sign the midfielder on loan in the January transfer window until the end of the season.
Villa, now managed by former Rangers boss Gerrard, Leicester City and Brighton and Hove Albion are also interested in McAtee.
The Daily Mail have added that City manager Pep Guardiola wants the 19-year-old English midfielder to stay at the club and learn from training with the first team.

Rangers to beat Aston Villa to James McAtee
In our view, Rangers are likely to beat Villa to the signature of McAtee before the January transfer window closes on Monday night.
The Daily Mail have reported that Manchester City chiefs think that Van Bronckhorst’s philosophy is similar to theirs, and they also have a good relationship with the Dutchman.
Now, the Scottish Premiership is not at the level of the Premier League, but Rangers are aiming to win the league for the second season in a row and are also in the Europa League.
That could make Rangers more appealing to McAtee than Villa.
