Manchester City want to sign Harry Winks from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that City manager Pep Guardiola is ‘a serious admirer’ of Winks, and that the former Barcelona boss is ‘intrigued by the prospect of developing Winks to his full potential’.

It has been reported that the Citizens are planning to make a bid for £40 million for the 24-year-old England international midfielder.

Surprise name?

Many would expect City to be on the hunt for Harry Kane from Spurs, not Winks.

After all, although Sergio Aguero remains a lethal striker, he is not getting any younger and has had injury problems, and one would think that City would be looking at Tottenham star Kane to succeed him.

However, it seems that it is Kane’s Spurs and England international teammate Winks who has caught the eye of Guardiola.

Unlikely summer transfer?

Money talks, and one would understand if Winks wanted to play under Guardiola, but Tottenham are a big club, and chairman Daniel Levy may not be willing to sell a player who has come through the club’s academy and has established himself as a fans’ favourite.
