Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has told the club’s official website that he thinks Gabriel Jesus will find the net very soon.

City drew 0-0 at Manchester United on Saturday evening, turning in a fairly uninspired performance going forward as Guardiola’s men drew a blank.

Much of the focus has been placed on striker Jesus, who never really came close to finding the net and has been a little unconvincing in front of goal this season.

The Brazilian has scored just three goals in nine outings across all competitions this season, with his Premier League goal drought now at four games.

That’s not a huge concern, but with Sergio Aguero coming back to fitness, Jesus needs to find his form sooner rather than later – and not just for his role this season.

Aguero’s time at City is coming to an end, and unless Jesus can show that he can be relied upon for goals, City may well splash out on a new forward next summer.

Ahead of tonight’s game with West Bromwich Albion, Guardiola has leapt to the defence of Jesus, suggesting that his all-round play and pressing ability makes him one of the best strikers in the world.

Guardiola does want to see the 23-year-old score goals though, and predicted that it will happen for him ‘soon’ having seen how good he is in training.

Yeah, he will do it soon (score). I see him every day and I love him so much what he does,” said Guardiola. “One of the reasons we concede so few is exclusively for him.

“I want his goals, but his contribution is the best striker in the world at doing things any other striker can do for the team. Regaining the ball, pressing high, opponent 18 yards box – he helps us to do it,” he added.
