Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City are not in the position to think about retaining the Premier League title after losing 1-0 to Tottenham on Sunday, keeping Arsenal five points clear at the top.
Speaking to the press via the Daily Mail, the Catalan manager revealed that the Manchester giants can’t think about winning the league having lost 1-0 to Spurs and failing to capitalise on Arsenal’s defeat to Everton on Saturday, the second loss Mikel Arteta’s side have experienced in the Premier League this season.
Guardiola said when asked about City’s title chances having thrown away a chance to close the gap on Arsenal: “We’re not in the position to think about being champions, just the next game, Aston Villa, we will prepare well and play our game as best as possible.”
With the two sides set to finally meet next week, Arsenal could make a serious statement in the Premier League with a win against City, a club they have failed to beat in the division since December 2015, a squad that Arteta was actually a part of eight years ago.

Indeed, the Premier League title race is getting interesting with Arsenal losing their first game in the league in some time. However, with City unable to capitalise on the opportunity and Guardiola once again losing to Tottenham, there is every chance that the Manchester giants could buckle under their own pressure.
As we know, City’s squad is much deeper than Arsenal’s, and whilst the north London side are still looking over their shoulder, Arteta’s side have the potential to bounce back immediately against Brentford on the weekend, whilst Guardiola and his team might struggle against Villa.
Guardiola might see Tottenham loss as major turning point for Arsenal

Arsenal’s loss to Everton had many supporters and pundits believing that the title dream was off, with a City win at Tottenham looking certain based on Spurs’ form in recent weeks. However, the Manchester side losing might have been viewed by Guardiola as a huge moment in the season for the Gunners.
As we know, Arsenal still control all the cards when it comes to the Premier League title race, and if the north London side can win their next two games against Brentford and City, there’s zero excuses for why Arteta and his young squad can’t win the league this campaign.
