Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has told BBC Sport that his players will give Liverpool a guard of honour.

City will take on Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League this coming Thursday evening.

The Reds have already won the title this season, their first in the Premier League era.

City manager Guardiola has said that his team will give Liverpool the guard of honour, and that the Reds deserve it.

Guardiola told BBC Sport: “We are going to do the guard of honour of course.

“We will greet Liverpool, when they come to our house, in an incredible way. We are going to do it because they deserve it.”

Laudable gesture

City willing to give Liverpool a guard of honour is a very big gesture indeed, and it shows just how much respect they have for the Reds.

While the Citizens have won the league title for the past two seasons, this campaign Liverpool have been head and shoulders above them and the rest of the teams in the Premier League.

Next season

However, Liverpool should not get complacent about next season, as City will be determined to claim back the Premier League title.

Chelsea and Manchester United could also be in the mix for the title, and the 2020-21 campaign promises to be hugely exciting and competitive.
