The Manchester City boss responded when asked about Liverpool’s lavish summer spending.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola spoke to reporters last night, and responded when asked what his views are on Liverpool’s big spending this summer, as quoted by Goal.
The Reds are expected to push City all the way this season, having brought in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alisson Becker and Xherdan Shaqiri for a total of somewhere in the region of £180 million.
Guardiola knows all about heavy spending, having already laid out just over £500 million on new players since taking over at the Etihad in the summer of 2016.
City won the Premier League title last season after a magnificent return of 100 points, and they finished 25 points clear of fourth placed Liverpool.
Whether Jürgen Klopp’s summer spending spree will be enough to close the gap on the Citizens remains to be seen, and when speaking to reporters, Guardiola delivered his verdict on the Merseyside outfit’s player recruitment, as quoted by Goal:
“Every club does what they believe. I completely understand. I am not concerned about what one of us said one day and the circumstances. If Liverpool believes they should spend this kind of money, it is because they believe it is best for them.”
This upcoming Premier League season has all the makings of being an absolute classic, and City will have to be at their very best, if they are to retain their title.
