Manchester City are reportedly ‘one step away’ from signing Pep Guardiola to a new contract, with talks set to begin over new terms in the coming days between the club and the Catalan coach.
According to Sport, Guardiola has decided that he wants to stay on with City after discussions with directors Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano, with the pair using the 2022 FIFA World Cup break as a gap in the season to thrash out a new contract for the former Bayern Munich manager.

As well as massive success in the league, Guardiola has also led City to an FA Cup and four League Cups, with the UEFA Champions League the last trophy missing from the former FC Barcelona manager’s personal silverware collection with the reigning English champions.

Indeed, coming up short in Europe in the last few seasons has seemingly played a big role in Guardiola’s decision to stay on at City. Following the signing of Erling Haaland this summer, the Manchester side are viewed by many as the favourites to win the Champions League this season.
And Guardiola signing a new contract with the club could have astonishing long-term effects for City, with fans of the Manchester giants recently sitting on the belief that their most successful manager ever would leave upon his contract expiring next year.
Guardiola signing new Manchester City contract is huge

Replacing Guardiola is one of the few tasks in football that many would consider impossible, and City signing the manager down to a new long-term contract is nothing short of incredible, with the Manchester side now primed to build their new legacy even further with the Catalan.
The former Barcelona man is now considered a bonafide legend at the Etihad Stadium, and with an exciting generation led by Haaland and Phil Foden coming through the ranks, City are in a perfect position to continue their dominance for years to come under Guardiola,
