Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur side have a 1-0 lead to protect ahead of their match with Manchester City tomorrow.

Pep Guardiola has told the Independent that Manchester City fans need to make an atmosphere like Tottenham Hotspur supporters did in the first-leg of their Champions League tie tomorrow.

City face Tottenham looking to turn the tie around, after losing 1-0 at White Hart Lane last week.

City were faced with a wall of noise when they visited Tottenham’s ground, and the atmosphere may well have influenced the game.

Indeed, Guardiola feels that whenever he has taken a team away in a Champions League knockout game they have had to cope against a fierce crowd.

And Guardiola is hoping that City fans can produce a noise like Tottenham supporters did last week.

“Sorry guys, I’m a failure in this competition but many times I played in the semi-final and quarter-finals, and every time I played away the atmosphere was really incredible,” he said.

“They support their local teams. We need it. Really, we need it.

“I want to see that they want to get to the semi finals. Not the players, the players no doubt after 20 months.

“I want to see my fans, our fans, that they really want the semi-finals. I want to see that tomorrow.”

Tottenham’s 1-0 advantage is a slender one, but it puts them in a good position to make it through.

If Spurs can find the net at the Etihad Stadium then City will have to score three times to knock Mauricio Pochettino’s men out.
