Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has told Sky Sports that Fernandinho turned in an ‘incredible’ performance against Sheffield United.

City beat the Blades 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, with Gabriel Jesus’s early goal proving to be the winner.

That’s another three points and yet another clean sheet for City, who are emerging as the clear favourites for the Premier League title.

Many City players are in great form at the moment, and Fernandinho is showing no signs of slowing down despite his advancing years.

The Brazilian, signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, turns 36 in May, but continues to show outstanding quality in the Premier League.

Fernandinho’s £150,000-a-week contract ends this summer, and there is a chance that he will be leaving City on a free transfer very soon.

Guardiola has raved about him though, claiming that his performance against Sheffield United was nothing short of ‘incredible’.

Guardiola dded that Fernandinho can’t play as much as he used to, but he is always good when he does come into the side – and City will soon have to decide whether to give him a new deal.

“He’s made an incredible performance again, doing the uncomfortable things that you have to do as a holding midfielder,” said Guardiola. “He knows perfectly his role, with 34-35 years old, he cannot play three games a week like Rodri and like Fernandinho could before.”

“But he is always ready and hopefully the players can learn off him. Always he has the feet on the ground, that’s why when he plays he’s played good,” he added.
