Harrison left Manchester City to join Leeds United on loan earlier this week.

Head coach Pep Guardiola of Manchester City calls out during an International Champions Cup match against the Borussia Dortmund at Soldier Field on July 20, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois.

Pep Guardiola believes Leeds United are perfect for Jack Harrison after the Manchester City winger completed a season-long loan Elland Road earlier this week.

Harrison had been involved in Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States, where he spent seven years before the Premier League champions came calling in January.

A five-month spell at Middlesbrough followed for the 21-year-old, although he was unable to break in to Tony Pulis’ plans.

And with ‘no space’ for him right now at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola says Harrison had to leave when Leeds – and the Spaniard’s friend, Marcelo Bielsa – came calling.

“Leeds called me about Jack Harrison and we spoke with Jack,” Guardiola explains in quotes relayed by Leeds Live. “He did so well in pre-season and I was really impressed.

“I always believe when we have space in the first team they have to stay, but there is no space and they have to play.

“Of course the best way is the Premier League or the Championship and I know for the way Marcelo wants to play – I think it suits perfectly for his [Jack’s] capacity.

“I said I am really impressed with my squad and you have to leave the side.”

Harrison should feel right at home at Leeds, where two of his former Middlesbrough teammates, Lewis Baker and Patrick Bamford, have already signed up during the summer transfer window.

The Stoke-on-Trent born player scored 10 goals and set up three during New York City’s 2017 MLS campaign.
