Pep Guardiola has described Tottenham Hotspur as a ‘top, top team’ after booking a League Cup final against them last night.

Guardiola’s Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday to book a Wembley showdown against Jose Mourinho’s Spurs outfit.

Earlier in the week, Tottenham breezed past Brentford by the same scoreline and they’re on course to end a 13-year trophy drought under Jose Mourinho.

When quizzed on Sky Sports about facing the Portuguese and the North Londoners, Guardiola said: “It’s not next week, the game. Of course Tottenham is a top, top team but we have time to think about it.”

The Citizens will be going for a fourth-successive League Cup title, having won the competition in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

With that in mind, Guardiola’s side will surely be favourites but Tottenham look a different animal under Mourinho now in comparison to the last EFL Cup final they lost, losing to Chelsea – then coached by Mourinho – back in 2015.

The good news for both teams is that they have the guts of four months before it happens, with the final due to take place on April 25 – two months later than it’s normally played.
