Pep Clotet and Garry Monk were both at Leeds United last season.
Clotet and Monk teamed up at Leeds last season, and they made a great success of their time with the Yorkshire club.
Leeds improved hugely under the stewardship of Monk, and managed to finish in seventh place in the Championship last season.
Although the Whites fell just short of the play off places, they still managed to rebuild a lot of confidence around Elland Road.
And Clotet admits that he still thinks Leeds have a chance to competing for major European honours again, if their potential is fulfilled.
“I remember being at Garry’s place watching a Champions League game on television midway through the season,” Clotet said.
“We said [Leeds] is exactly the kind of club people could go and watch on that stage one day. They’d done it already and it would be fantastic to do it in a sustainable way. It has all the foundations to become such a powerful club. I don’t know how long that will take, but obviously it’s something we thought about a lot.”
Monk and Clotet could hardly be viewed differently by most Leeds fans now, following their departures this summer.
Monk left Leeds to join Middlesbrough, and he has been the source of heavy criticism from Whites fans.
Clotet, on the other hand, is still fondly remembered at Elland Road and is now in charge at Oxford United.
