Leeds United assistant manager Pep Clotet has told BBC Radio Leeds that he thinks Kemar Roofe has a big future ahead of him at Elland Road.

The Whites booked their place in the last 16 of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night as they beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 at Elland Road, with Chris Wood popping up with a late header to win the game.

Wood’s winning goal came after Kemar Roofe had scuffed an effort goalwards, with the summer signing still yet to really hit his stride in West Yorkshire.

Roofe, 23, smashed 26 goals in all competitions for Oxford United last season, and Leeds forked out around £3m (BBC Sport) to lure him away from the Kassam Stadium over the summer.

One of the most highly-rated attacking players in the Football League, Roofe has yet to score in ten appearances for Leeds, making something of a disappointing start to life with the club.

Roofe played 90 minutes on Tuesday as Leeds beat Blackburn, and his performance suggested that his best days are ahead of him after an encouraging display.

After the final whistle, Leeds assistant Pep Clotet was asked by BBC Radio Leeds about whether he felt the ‘struggling’ Roofe was starting to show his best form, and the Spaniard suggested that it has been hard for players to settle given how many new faces have arrived.

Clotet added that he predicts a bright future for Roofe as he can become a ‘very good player’ for the club, and showed some good moment against Blackburn.

“A lot of new players have come in, so it is not easy to adapt,” said Clotet. “But Kemar we think has a high capacity to become a very good player for Leeds United, and he showed a lot of very good highlights.”

“He is very disciplined in the way that he is giving everything he has for the benefit of the team, and his quality will help us a lot in the future,” he added.
