The pair heavily analysed their time at Swansea City.

Leeds United appointed Garry Monk as their new manager this summer and the new Elland Road supremo decided to bring in his former Swansea City assistant Pep Clotet to take over the same role in Yorkshire.

The Spaniard was with Monk through the good and the bad during his time at the Liberty Stadium and has been speaking about how the pair tried to learn from both the positives and the negatives from their Swansea days this summer.

He told Sky Sports how he and Monk reviewed their entire time at Swansea ahead of taking the job at Leeds United:

“We spent days watching a lot of games.

“I did it on my own, Garry did it on his own and then we met a lot of times at my house in Swansea. We analysed the good season we had at Swansea where we finished 8th, we analysed our first season, when we took the club out of relegation danger, and we also analysed the season that we left.

“We analysed tactically. We analysed game-by-game. We analysed every final-third entry for and against us, the domination rate for every five minutes, the possession. We even analysed the opposition. We kept video records and physical data from every training session. We wanted to know if our training impacted our performances. What could we have changed to make it better?”

Clotet and Monk must be praised for their attention to detail. Going through all of this data must have been an arduous journey for the duo – but hopefully it will help them in their position at Leeds United.

So far, it has been a struggle.

Leeds have won just twice in the Championship this season and are currently looking well off of promotion pace compared to the rest of the division.

Hopefully, for Leeds fans, they can pick up a win again v Cardiff City this lunchtime.
