Pep Clotet was Leeds United’s assistant manager last season, and returned to Elland Road in his new role as Oxford United boss at the weekend.
Pep Clotet has bid farewell to Leeds with a sentimental tweet after his Oxford United side faced the Whites in a pre-season friendly at Elland Road.
Clotet was a member of Garry Monk’s backroom team for a number of years, and spent one season with Leeds as their assistant boss as they came desperately close to reaching the Championship play-off places.
While Monk’s departure in the summer and appointment at Middlesbrough saw much of the feeling from the fans towards their former boss sour significantly, the relationship between the supporters and Clotet has remained extremely positive.
There were even many calls for the Spaniard to succeed his former boss once Monk had left his role and Andrea Radrizzani was looking for his successor – so unsurprisingly, there was an extremely positive reaction towards the 40-year-old as he brought his new team to Elland Road for both sides’ final pre-season friendly before the new campaign begins.
Clotet – now in charge of League One side Oxford – watched his team put in a brave display as well taken goals from Kemar Roofe and Stuart Dallas saw the Championship outfit run out 2-0 winners.
But after the game, Clotet took to social media and sent out a tweet, accompanied by a photo of his young son on the side of the Elland Road pitch, expressing his excitement about the journey ahead with Oxford and wishing his old side all the best for the campaign ahead.
