Jurgen Klopp has told his Liverpool press conference ahead of his side’s showdown with Tottenham that the ‘very impressive’ Jose Mourinho hasn’t surprised him.

When Mourinho first joined Spurs there was some suggestions that he is finished or outdated and Klopp brushed off those claims by stating that is ‘the world were are living in’ where ‘people will go for you’.

Not many would have expected this at the start of the season, but it’s Tottenham who are sitting top of the Premier League table heading into this busy festive period with Liverpool on their tails.

Ahead of their meeting tomorrow night, Klopp shared his honest thoughts on Mourinho and how he has been wrongly perceived.

“I’m not surprised because that’s the world we are living in,” said Klopp. “That’s how it is. You are very successful until yesterday probably if you cannot prove that today then people will go for you.

“That’s how it is. I don’t think he was surprised. He should come back, if it was a comeback, skills. Very impressive. Very impressive what he did at Tottenham and the way they play this year. It’s really good. He turned them into a result machine, that’s how it is.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

These types of games are tailor-made for Mourinho because he knows exactly how to get a result from them.

Already this season, Spurs have picked up points against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Liverpool are next on their list, but they will have to end a formidable Anfield record if they are to leave with all three.
