Speaking on his podcast, Ian Wright has made the case for Divock Origi staying at Liverpool, despite ongoing links to AC Milan.
The Belgian’s contract is up this summer, and by all accounts, he will be leaving Liverpool. In fact, even Jurgen Klopp has hinted at his impending departure.
However, according to Wright, Origi would be something of a fool to leave Anfield and ditch his adoring fans, despite his lack of gametime for the Reds.

Wright spoke about Origi.
“You know what was really cool was the ovation Divock Origi got when he was just warming up. He should stay, I know people say he should go and play somewhere else, but why would you want to leave this Liverpool side when you have a role where you’re not even playing for a certain amount of minutes, but the fans are happy to see you? And he always delivers,” Wright said.
“You have to be a special player to do this. I can’t remember too many who have played that role for so long who don’t seem to be unhappy doing it. Why would you want to leave Liverpool? What Origi does, is that in important games, they call for him and he answers the call every time.”
Done it all
We can understand where Wright is coming from here. After all, why would you leave such a special club and a fanbase that adores you?
However, Origi’s Liverpool legacy is already set in stone. He’s done it all at Anfield, from late winners in a Merseyside Derby to a goal in a Champions League final, what is there left to do?
Yes, he could continue to do more of the same at Liverpool, but surely a starting role every week at a team like AC Milan is more alluring at this point?
Origi will leave Liverpool a legend, and a move away this summer will not change that.
