Robbie Savage urged Everton to hire Burnley boss Sean Dyche over someone like Wayne Rooney, even if some may ‘laugh’ at that, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former midfielder thinks that Dyche has done ‘unbelievable’ in Burnley colours and he is someone Everton should look towards.

Dyche is a pragmatic coach and he would fit in the style mould of the recently-sacked, Benitez.

In truth, he probably wouldn’t be a popular appointment because of his style of play and some would rather push towards the more forward-thinking, Graham Potter, instead.

A number of names have already been thrown about regarding who can replace Benitez, including a certain Roberto Martinez, Frank Lampard and Derby boss, Rooney.

But Savage put Dyche’s name forward because of the job he has done over the years at Turf Moor.

“Everton have had Ronald Koeman,” said Savage. “They have had Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez. They have had huge names trying to manage that football club.

“But it’s not working. Rooney, I agree, with his passion. I think he is doing a fantastic job at Derby under unbelievable circumstances.

“But what about, and people might laugh at this, what about Sean Dyche? Keeps Premier League teams up on small budgets.

“The job he has done, over the whole, why is Sean Dyche, who has done unbelievable, season after season after season, in keeping Burnley in the Premier League.”

There’s no doubt that Dyche has been outstanding for Burnley over the years, from helping them earn promotion twice and maintaining their top-flight status.

That is in jeopardy, at this moment in time, because they are sitting in the Premier League’s relation zone.

As a result, that might also be off-putting for Everton supporters because being the flavour of the month helps.

Either way, aside from someone like Sam Allardyce, those in the Everton boardroom have always made appointments that caused talking points, both negative and positive.
