Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport that Patrick Bamford is Leeds United’s ‘most important player’.

The former Premier League winner claimed that people were ‘doubting’ the £10 million hitman (BBC Sport) at the start of the campaign, but he is now showcasing his true worth in England’s top-flight.

The 27-year-old was on the scoresheet again for Leeds on Monday night, as he netted his 12th league goal of the season against Crystal Palace.

Sutton has been mightly impressed by what Bamford has brought to the table, as he heaped praise on the ex-Chelsea academy product.

“His movement is really excellent, Patrick Bamford,” said Sutton. “He just takes his position out of the eye-line.

“He’s a player. He’s arguably Leeds’ most important player.

“What a player he has been for Leeds United. People doubting whether he could score goals at this level and he has done.”

Does an England call beckon for Bamford? Or are there too many players in his way?

One area where England are blessed is in the attacking department because there is a vast amount of players doing bits in the number 10, nine and wide positions.

For Bamford, he is up against the likes of Harry Kane, Danny Ings, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Callum Wilson & Ollie Watkins.

Some already hold an advantage in the fact that they have represented their country, so whatever happens from now until the end of the season, Gareth Southgate has some big calls to make.
