Owen Hargreaves has claimed that Mo Salah has been ‘astonishing’ for Liverpool this season.

The former England midfielder added that ‘people criticise’ him for being selfish, yet his assists this season prove otherwise, as he told MatchDay Extra on PLP (22/05/22 at 8:00 pm).

Salah ended the 2021/22 Premier League campaign as the joint top-scorer, alongside Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son with 23 goals, and 14 assists to his name.

Despite that, the Egyptian star didn’t end the season with an individual award, with Kevin de Bruyne being named the Player of the Year.

Whilst Hargreaves agreed that the Manchester City pass master is the ‘pure’ footballer, he questioned how Salah didn’t get reconsigned in such a fashion.

“If you are top-scorer, or joint top-scorer, and you get the most assists,” said Hargreaves.

“Then surely you are the best player in the Premier League? The best pure football player is Kevin de Bruyne. Everybody knows that. I think de Bruyne wins it based on the last three months.

“But I think Mo Salah has been astonishing, with the form that he has been in.

“People criticise and say he is selfish. How can you be selfish if you have the most assists?”

SALAH HAS THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL STAGE TO PROVE PEOPLE WRONG

To think that Salah has had such a remarkable career, and continues to thrive as he does, yet he probably still needs to prove people wrong.

There is no doubt that he will be hurting at Liverpool missing out on the Premier League title and his lack of individual awards.

But, come this Saturday, when the Reds face off against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

He has a great chance of helping his team to a seventh European crown and proving his worth even further.
