Charles Watts has suggested that the injury news on Thomas Partey is ‘slightly positive’ for Arsenal, as he told his own YouTube channel.
The 28-year-old had to limp off during Arsenal’s pre-season defeat to Chelsea over the weekend because of an ankle injury.
There was a lot of worry from the Arsenal supporters that one of their key players could miss a significant part of the season.
But Goal correspondent, Watts, shared the ‘people close to Partey’ are suggesting that it’s not as bad as it could have been and he could return for Arsenal’s fixture against Manchester City on August 28.
“The early signs on Partey are mixed,” said Watts. “He had his scans on Monday, he is going to miss the start of Arsenal’s season barring some sort of miracle.
“From both sides of things, Partey is certainly being ruled out here for a few weeks – Arsenal play Chelsea on August 22 and then Manchester City on August 28. Partey will be looking at one of those, as things stand as the game he could come back.
“Now, he will see another specialist this week. But the early signs are that it’s not as bad as it could have been. That’s what Arsenal are taking from the scan and people close to Thomas Partey are taking from it as well.
“Frustrating news that he’s got this injury. And, yes he’s going to miss the start of the season, but also some slightly positive news because there were genuine fears that this could be a slightly bad one – he won’t even miss a few weeks.”

Well, that’s just Partey’s luck and Arsenal’s luck that he didn’t used to visit the treatment room as much at Atletico Madrid, yet here he is suffering injury after injury in North London.
It does question who Mikel Arteta will pick for the start of Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Brentford because it might just be Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny in the middle of the park.
If that’s the case the questions have to be asked, once again, of those in the boardroom and whether they are backing him in the transfer market enough.
It’s quite clear that more midfield options need to be brought in, both from the defensive side and another one-touch creative player that can help elevate the side going forward.
