Jermaine Defoe spoke on the Mennie Podcast about Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of winning the Premier League this season.
Spurs have started the campaign brilliantly. They are top of the table, having lost just once all season and, with Jose Mourinho at the helm, many feel this is the season when Tottenham will finally step up.
Defoe is among the best strikers to have ever played for Tottenham. The Englishman played over 350 games for the club and scored 143 goals in all competitions, but he did not have much success with respect to silverware.
During Defoe’s stay at the club, Spurs only won the League Cup back in 2008. They haven’t won a single piece of silverware since, but the former Tottenham star truly believes that the drought will come to an end this season.
He said: “Look at the results, of course they can. It’s not me being biased, I’m just looking at performances – and they’ve got Mourinho. People can say what they want, but anything can happen. I see a trophy coming, anyway.”
Tottenham came really close to picking up a trophy under Mauricio Pochettino on a couple of occasions, but they fell short. The Argentine was sacked and a serial winner in Mourinho was brought in to end their wait for silverware.

The Tottenham boss has won everywhere he has been. He is a brilliant tactician and he knows how to bring the best out of his players. Thanks to him, Spurs have been one of the best teams in the country this season.
Son Heung-min has become a bigger goal threat than he was in the last few seasons, while Harry Kane has taken his game to a whole new level. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the general in midfield that Tottenham have lacked and he is one of the biggest reasons why they have done so well.
Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier have also been extremely solid at the back, making Tottenham an incredibly strong side. Mourinho has almost everything he needs at his disposal, and Spurs look like they will win something this term.
