Writing in his mailbag on The Athletic, Phil Hay has shared a long-awaited update on QSI’s interest in investing in Leeds United.

It’s been almost two years since initial reports about the Qataris and Leeds began to circulate, and while nothing has come to fruition, those rumours have refused to go away.

However, with the San Francisco 49ers taking up a bigger stake in the Elland Road outfit, Hay says that it’s unlikely that we’ll see QSI get involved anytime soon.

“When the smoke was thick around Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), people at Leeds always said that increased investment from 49ers Enterprises was far more likely than cash arriving from Qatar. Now that the 49ers’ stake is up to 37 per cent, we can rule out the idea of QSI getting involved any time soon,” Hay said.

It seems as though we can put any of this speculation to bed for at least a few years.

The ownership shakeup at Elland Road seems to have already happened, and until Andrea Radrizzani is ready to sell the controlling stake of the club, it’s hard to see any more new investment coming in.

There’s no sign of the Italian wanting to sell up anytime soon, so it seems that the current ownership model will be in place for at least the next few years.

After that, who knows, Hay doesn’t say we can rule out QSI ever getting involved, but it won’t be in the foreseeable future.
