Gary Neville has suggested that he ‘can’t see’ Jesse Lingard leaving Manchester United for Newcastle United, as he told Sky Sports.
The TV pundit reacted to ‘people talking’ about Lingard possibly leaving Man United for the now mega-rich Newcastle side and highlighted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changing formation recently as a reason behind it.
After getting thrashed 5-0 by Liverpool last week, Man United changed formation during their 3-0 win at Tottenham over the weekend.
They went with a three at the back, two wing-backs, three-man midfield and Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani up top.
In that formation, someone like Jadon Sancho doesn’t fit in naturally, but Lingard does.
Neville pointed that out whilst discussing the England international, before he warned Newcastle about their current situation.
“What they have got is a real poor run of results,” said Neville. “They are near the bottom of the table, them and Norwich and they have to do something quickly.
“Otherwise, they will find themselves as a Championship club. They really could. They have to do something really good and pretty quickly. Steve Bruce is gone now and the scapegoat is no longer there. It now turns to someone else. A manager has to come in and hit the ground running.
“People are talking about whether they can sign players in January. Jesse Lingard has been mentioned. But I can’t see Manchester United, particularly Man United playing that system (letting him go).
“Actually, I think Jesse comes into play even more than before because it suits him more than it does Greenwood, Rashford and Sancho.”

If Newcastle want to sign Lingard during the winter transfer window, then they might find that they have competition.
Lingard re-ignited his previously stumbling career by moving to West Ham last January and showcasing his goalscoring talents once more.
There is a suggestion that the London club could go back in for Lingard when the transfer window re-opens and he could be available for a cut-price of £15 million.
Even though Newcastle would have a lot of cash to throw at Lingard, in truth, he would probably end up picking the Hammers over the Magpies.
One because of their current situation – which seems a world apart, at the moment – and then the success he had at the club last season.
