Danny Murphy has claimed that, whilst people ‘focus on Darwin Nunez’, Liverpool’s other summer arrival, Fabio Carvalho, will play more than fans think.
The TV and Radio pundit labelled Carvalho as someone who can ‘score some goals’ for Liverpool and a ‘talent’ for the Premier League giants.
Carvalho initially signed on the dotted line for the Reds back in January, when he was helping free-scoring Fulham earn promotion to the Premier League.
But he officially moved to Merseyside in the summer, and on Saturday, he came off the bench to make his Premier League debut, ironically enough, against Fulham, who recorded a deserved 2-2 draw against Jurgen Klopp’s men.
When it comes to senior players, Carvalho isn’t getting ahead of anyone soon on a regular basis, but that hasn’t stopped Klopp from giving the young guns a chance or throwing them into the big games.
Nonetheless, when talking about Carvalho’s possible role in this Liverpool team, Murphy is expecting big things, as he told Premier League Productions (06/08/22 at 11:45 am).
“The young lad they brought in from Fulham, Carvalho, I think he is going to be a talent,” said Murphy. “I think he will score some goals for them.
On whether Carvalho is for the future or the here and now: “I think you will see more of him than you think. I really do.
“I think he’s creative. He wants the ball and he’s confident. Obviously, you have competition for places.
“But I think people are focusing on Nunez, and actually bringing him in as well, brings an extra option in the attacking areas.”
THIAGO INJURY
During Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Fulham, aside from the dropped points, the other big problem was Thiago Alcantara going off injured.
It’s not helpful to the club’s cause, but it seems as though he might be out of action for a little while, which is a blow with the new season just underway.
This will perhaps open the door for a Carvalho to start and earn more minutes, unless Klopp looks elsewhere in the squad or to the transfer market.
Harvey Elliott should be ahead of Carvalho because he was starting games for the club last season and he was brought on before his teammate at Craven Cottage.
But there is also a certain Curtis Jones knocking on that door, either way, Klopp’s best call is probably to dip into the market because, even before Thiago’s injury, there was talk of another midfielder being needed.
